We run a specialised programme of courses that are designed to help adults with learning disabilities develop new and transferable skills.

AQA Unit Award Scheme

The Fifth Trust is proud to be working with the AQA Unit Award Scheme (UAS), an inclusive and flexible programme that recognises and celebrates individual achievement.

This scheme has enabled us to award around 1,000 Unit Award Scheme certificates to more than 70% of our students. This inclusive and flexible scheme celebrates the diverse abilities, ages, and skills of all our learners, ensuring that every student’s hard work is recognised and validated, ensuring that learners of all ages and abilities have their hard work formally recognised.

Chosen for its flexibility and wide range of opportunities, the AQA Unit Award Scheme allows The Fifth Trust to develop bespoke courses that meet the needs of our students. They equip adults with learning disabilities with a variety of skills, from life skills such as employability, to practical skills such as gardening and cooking.

All Stars Academy

Our All Stars Academy has been developed by The Fifth Trust instructors to offer students the opportunity to dive deeper into subjects they are interested in. Students receive internal recognition and a certificate upon course completion.

FTConnect

FTConnect is an online learning hub which offers popular courses including cookery and art, how-to videos presented by our instructors, storytelling and fun life skills games. 

It is free for students of The Fifth Trust, and as a subscription service for people with learning disabilities who do not attend our skills centres.

External qualifications

As well as our own courses, we are happy to help arrange external qualifications for students who are interested in extending their learning, including the option of an apprenticeship and John Muir awards.
