In this session, students enjoy activities like:

Growing plants

Using gardening tools safely

Looking after fruit, vegetables, and flowers

Caring for nature

Learning about sustainability

Working in a team

Horticulture means growing and caring for plants. In this session, you will do practical, hands-on work in the garden. Anyone can join – no matter your ability.

At Barham Skills Centre, we have large greenhouses to grow young plants and a garden where we grow fruit and vegetables. These are used in our café and sold in our garden centre.

You’ll learn by doing the work yourself under close supervision. There is also a classroom where you can learn more.

You can also take the John Muir Discovery Award. This helps you learn about wild places and how to protect them.
