As we fast approach the week of The Big Give Christmas Challenge, we thought it appropriate to revisit what The Big Give is all about. The Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign, championing a wide range of charitable organisations. Whatever the cause, every donation has the power to be doubled. Enabling thousands of charities to make an even bigger difference.

Our day services empower adults with learning disabilities to lead more fulfilling lives. Through regular, meaningful activities and skill-building, they gain confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of purpose. Being part of a supportive community helps them form friendships and social networks that are vital for wellbeing. Our services also provide essential respite for families, offering peace of mind that their loved ones are safe, happy, and thriving.

The Fifth Trust is fundraising for a fully accessible Tipi to create an Outdoor Active hub where our students – adults with learning disabilities – can learn new skills like bushcraft, fire-making, carving, and woodland management all year-round.

• Students will improve their physical and mental wellbeing: outdoor exercise, fresh air and sensory engagement with nature will promote better fitness and reduce anxiety and stress.

• Students will develop practical life skills: learning new skills such as fire-making, shelter building, and bushcraft will build confidence and independence.

• Students will connect with the natural world: sessions will spark curiosity and respect for nature through guided exploration and observation.

• Students will learn to take supervised risks: using tools like saws and axes will build resilience and decision-making skills in a controlled, supportive environment.
